Planning is the key to success on a project of this magnitude undertaken in such a small timeline window. NEMX replaced this 48” wide by 118-foot tall, 25-ton elevator including a number of steel member upgrades in a 12-day period.

The Challenge:

An end user in the dairy industry provided a project that required 11 case spirals, 2 food grade spirals, 1 KM of single lane overhead conveyance with merging, 6 KM of overhead box conveyor, moving of 3 robotic cells and the revitalization of the packaging departments ceilings.

This was a moving target project, erect some conveyors and some spirals, move a robotic cell then re-vitalize the ceiling. Then repeat… Planning and end user communication was paramount.

In the end this baking industry awarded this box conveyance system project to our conveyor manufacturing partners Storcan international. As NEMX is the boots on the ground, we were awarded the installation portion of this project.

The Challenge:

This projects scop was the removal of some current line shaft box conveyors, modification a few currently installed line shaft conveyors to accept new merging locations and installation of a new spiral as well as several overhead conveyors, including curves all of which was designed to take place over a 2-week Christmas shutdown. All conveyors other than the spiral were suspended from the ceiling to which the trusses were beyond the ISO panel roof which had to be precisely drilled and hermetically sealed once completed due to food safety concerns.

The Challenge:

The time factor is the biggest challenge for this project. Project planning was paramount to complete this job in the time frame allowed. Utilizing hot work (welding, cutting with a grinder etc.) was the name of the game to get this plant back into service on time.

All structural elements were pre-fabricated, painted and shipped from the NEMX shop for pre-assembly prior to the shutdown.
