Summary:

When NEMX was contacted by a hydroelectric turbine generator client, having issues with their power generation due to something foreign passing through their turbine, NEMX was ready to “flow” into action.

The Challenge:

As the turbine was located within and below a dammed river, working below the waterline posed challenges far outside of the norm. Finding the best way to isolate the clients’ issues with their equipment safely and efficiently was at the forefront of the challenges faced with this unique project.

Why the electrical generating client chose NEMX:

NEMX was chosen due to price, ability, reputation within the industry and timeline plan layout at bidding time.

How NEMX Responded:

NEMX operates on a safety-first mentality with every job and this one was no exception. Putting together a comprehensive access and egress plan allowed our talented Millwrights to safely disassemble the turbine propeller to find the damaged linkage causing the clients issues. Moving quickly and working with NEMX’s local resources, the team was able to source custom machined parts that would otherwise have taken weeks or even months to get, and get the unit back into operation in short order.

The Results:

A smooth-running turbine with minimal downtime, to a more than happy client who could start putting power back to the grid!
